This track goes back a long way and has an interesting tale to tell about its arrival in my new recordings.
Back in the mists of time I along with 3 other mates were doing the 'Garage band' thing (or shed band in our part of the country) and 2 of the guys came in with the riff and basics of this song. Fast forward nearly 20 years and for some reason this idea never left my brain even tho no recording of the original idea was ever made (apart from a scratchy cassette recording co writer Sam Hughes found in his dads loft!) A few emails between myself and other co-writer Andrew Gray put together a lyric (the early lyrics included stuff about flying armchairs..) then a little thought on arrangement and the thing was finished.. a long gestation indeed, but great fun to do, and fits in well with this project being called 'Life in reverse'
As for the 'Carls Arms' part of the tittle, you would have to ask Mr Hughes as that is one of his interesting looks at life, but it maybe after another old school chum called Carl who thought he was Phil Collins!
